Municipality and Regional Authority to collaborate in implementation of Old Town projects

CORFU. As part of the memorandum of cooperation, a section of the renovated auxiliary building of the Urban Monastery of Agia Ekaterini will be allocated to house the official headquarters of the Inter-Institutional and Interdisciplinary Management Body for Corfu Old Town (UNESCO).

(Central Corfu Municipality) A memorandum of cooperation between the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands and the Ionian Islands Regional Authority, aimed at implementing actions to showcase Corfu Old Town as a UNESCO Monument, was signed by the Regional Governor and the Mayor on Friday, November 1.

With this memorandum of cooperation, the Municipality partners with the Ionian Islands Regional Authority to establish the Cross-Border Network of World Cultural Heritage as part of the HERITAGE LINKS project under the INTERREG Greece-Italy 2021-2027 programme, with the Ionian Islands Region as the beneficiary.

Within the framework of the cooperation memorandum, a section of the renovated auxiliary building of the Urban Monastery of Agia Ekaterini will be allocated to house the official headquarters of the Inter-Institutional and Interdisciplinary Management Body for Corfu Old Town (UNESCO) and will also serve as a space to promote the Cross-Border Network of World Cultural Heritage of the HERITAGE LINKS project.

The funding from the Cross-Border Programme includes the supply and installation of support equipment to make the building complex fully operational.

The Ionian Islands Regional Authority proceeded with identifying and assessing the equipment needs for installation in the three-story building and preparing a corresponding budget for interventions, which was estimated at €171,595 (including VAT).
