Fuel tanker comes off road in Acharavi
CORFU. Traffic is being diverted in the Agios Spyridonas area.
A fuel tanker veered off course on the road between Almyros and Acharavi on Saturday morning, August 31, at around 7:30 a.m. for reasons yet unknown.
The tanker blocked the main road, and fire department units arrived at the scene to ensure fire safety. A team from the Thinallion Fire Department and the Civil Protection Service is present at the scene, with additional support from the Central Corfu Fire Department. The commander of Corfu Fire Station, N. Avlonitis, is also there.
The vehicle was carrying fuel, and a fuel transfer operation is currently underway to allow the vehicle to be moved.
According to reports, there was no fuel leakage, but firefighters proceeded with the precautionary use of foam.
A team from the North Corfu Police Department is conducting an investigation into the causes of the accident.
