Ministry of Culture says yes to wind farm in Diapontia Islands

ATHENS. Because "no direct or indirect damage is caused to land, coastal and underwater sites of archaeological interest, or to the adjacent protected monuments."

The Ministry of Culture has approved the Strategic Environmental Impact Study for the National Offshore Wind Farm Development Programme.

According to ypodomes.gr, as stated in the decision published on the 'Diavgeia' platform on August 2, the Ministry of Culture partially gives the green light to the Strategic Environmental Impact Study (SMPE) as it notes that in some areas "no direct or indirect damage is caused to land, coastal and underwater sites of archaeological interest, or to the adjacent protected monuments".

The areas that received the green light from the Ministry of Culture are as follows:

  1. The marine area of the Diapontia Islands,
  2. The marine area of Chios,
  3. The marine area of Psarra,
  4. The marine area of Ikaria (two sites: Ikaria 1, Ikaria 2),
  5. The marine area of Ag. Apostoli (east of southern Evia),
  6. The marine area of Kymi,
  7. The marine area of Ag. Efstratios (three sites: Efstratios 1a, Ag. Efstratios 1b, Ag. Efstratios 2),
  8. The marine area of Donousa (two sites: Donousa 1, Donousa 2),
  9. The marine area of Rhodes,
  10. The marine area of Kasos,
  11. The marine area of Karpathos,
  12. The marine area of Antikythera,
  13. The marine area of Crete 2b, Crete 3, Crete 4,
  14. The marine area of the Patraikos Gulf, and
  15. The two marine areas designated for pilot Offshore Wind Farm projects, south of the coastline of the Regional Unit of Evros and north-northeast of Samothrace.
