CORFU. The only vessel now servicing these specific destinations is the ΄Vamos΄, which docks at Agios Stefanos, Avliotes but is unable to transport vehicles.

A serious connectivity issue has arisen between the Diapontia Islands and Corfu since Friday, November 1, as the Kerkyra Lines ferry boat Evdokia, which connected the Diapontia Islands with Corfu, has ceased its operations.

The route, which was operating normally until October 31, was stopped on Friday without any notification to passengers. As a result, the only vessel now servicing these specific destinations is the Vamos, which docks at Agios Stefanos but is unable to transport vehicles.

Residents who inquired at the company’s offices received the response that the ferry is docking “indefinitely.”

The Deputy Mayor of Mathraki, Spyros Argyris, told Enimerosi that in his communication with the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy, he was told that there is no interest in renewing the service, either from the company that has been operating it until now or from any other company.

With the current situation, the residents of the Diapontia Islands will only be able to reach Corfu three times a week (Monday, Wednesday and Saturday) on a ferry that cannot transport vehicles.

It goes without saying that this development creates serious problems for the residents of the islands.
