CORFU. "A historical site of great emotional value for the people of Corfu, which had been neglected for many years, resulting in the risk of fire as well as making it unsafe and unpleasant for visitors."

Corfu Forestry Department has announced that the clean-up and clearing works at the Mon Repos estate have been completed, and it is now ready for use.

The announcement states:

"Corfu Forestry Department is pleased to announce that the clean-up works at the Mon Repos estate have been completed.

A historical site of great emotional value for the people of Corfu, which had been neglected for many years, resulting in the risk of fire as well as making it unsafe and unpleasant for visitors.

This significant project covered an area of approximately 150 stremma, under the Antinero II programme, executed in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Energy and funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund through the Hellenic Corporation of Assets and Participations, following a request from the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands.

We are handing over to the residents and visitors to the island a safer space for recreation, with the enhancement of its historical monuments, while adhering to all regulations.

We express our gratitude to our colleagues who, despite their workload and other duties, contributed to the completion of this project.

We thank the Civil Protection Department of the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands, especially Mr. Yiannis Vasilakis, for their excellent cooperation.

We hope that the Municipality, as the owner of the Mon Repos estate, will ensure, from now on, its maintenance with the assistance of our department."
