Two more schools joined the protest today, increasing the number of school sit-ins to eight. According to the Ionian Islands Regional Directorate of Education, there are new sit-ins at Amphipagiton Junior High and the Music School, while they continue at the 1st, 2nd, 3rd High Schools, Agros Junior High and High School, and Kato Korakiana Vocational High School.
The pupils are expressing their opposition to the establishment of private universities proposed by the government in a relevant legislative proposal, while also protesting against the police raid that took place last week in schools with sit-ins, resulting in the detention of six pupils.
They are also demanding the abolition of the minimum admission base and the Bank of Topics, an increase in funding for education, the possibility of securing grades in the nationwide exams, and more.
Today is a day of nationwide protests against private universities. In Corfu, the rally will take place at noon at the former Psychiatric Hospital, followed by a march.
