CORFU. Due to upgrade works, the airport will close temporarily again from January 16 to January 29, 2024.

Corfu Airport is reopening after a 15-day closure due to upgrade works. It will operate over the Christmas period until January 15, after which operations will be suspended again from January 16 to January 29, 2024.

The work, which began last winter, involves repairing the runway, constructing safety zones, and upgrading technological equipment to address observations from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

According to Fraport, temporarily suspending the operation of the runway is absolutely necessary due to the size and complexity of the project, the terrain morphology, and the surrounding environment. Despite this, and based on planning, the specified time frames represent the shortest possible period that operations can be suspended.

Regulatory compliance and safety, at all levels, are a fundamental priority for the company. It is worth noting that these specific works are part of a broader plan for the further enhancement of the already high levels of safety and operation at the regional airports managed by Fraport Greece. As mentioned earlier, these are large-scale projects that the company will undertake as part of the financing from the "Recovery and Resilience Fund."

The first flights will commence from the afternoon. the first arrival is scheduled from Sky Express at 15:15, followed by Aegean at 19:10.

During the works, only helicopter air ambulance flights will operate.
