CORFU. The gathering in support of Palestine was held in Georgaki Square.

With slogans against war and solidarity with the Palestinian people, a protest gathering took place yesterday in Kosta Georgaki Square. The rally was initiated by the teachers' unions ELME and SEPE. They were joined by left-wing and trade union movements: Corfu Regional Educators Association, the Workers Centre, the local party Ekinisi, OGE Kerkyra, KKE, Ionian Islands Laiki Sispirosi party and ARSI.

"People who fight for their lives are not terrorists!" stated ELMA. "The real terrorists are the murderers of nations, USA-NATO-EU, who support Israel! For 75 years, the Palestinian people have been struggling for freedom and self-determination, mourning hundreds of dead, including civilians, the elderly and children. In 2023 alone, over 40 children have been killed by Israeli forces."

Central Corfu Parents and Guardians Association expressed its concern for the bloody events and its solidarity with the Palestinian people: "A great tragedy is unfolding with civilian casualties, especially children, on both sides. As parents and believers in the peaceful coexistence of nations, we believe that only the people, in this case, the people of Israel and the people of Palestine, should have the final say in living peacefully and beautifully, without unjust wars and hatred."

Ionian Islands Laiki Sispirosi party stated: "The recent developments of the past days constitute yet another premeditated crime against the Palestinian people. The state of Israel and the far-right government of Netanyahu, in the form of a 'national unity' government, are continuing the massacres of previous years, striking the people, civilians and children with their military machinery, resulting in thousands of casualties.

We stand by the struggling Palestinian people against Israeli occupation and imperialist designs. The Palestinian people have the right to resist Israeli brutality and the right to determine their own path."
