Regional Governor: Request for Corfu to be included in Guinness Book of Records

CORFU. Regional Governor, Rodi Kratsa, also announced that the procedures for funding the basic needs of the philharmonic societies in equipment and clothing have begun.

(Ionian Islands Regional Administration) The Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands, Rodi Kratsa, announced that on July 11, 2023, she submitted a request to the organisation that manages the Guinness World Records, which includes global records in various fields, to include Corfu as the island with the most musicians and philharmonic bands per capita. The response will be made known at the end of October.

The Regional Governor highlighted the details of her request:

  • 18 philharmonic bands
  • 2,300 musicians
  • 1,400 philharmonic society students

"What we take pride in should become globally known," said Ms. Kratsa. "It will earn us admiration and attract the international community. It will also strengthen our efforts to preserve our tradition and contemporary creativity."

Rodi Kratsa also announced that the procedures for funding the basic needs of the philharmonic societies in equipment and clothing have begun, as listed by the philharmonic societies themselves in response to the request of the Ionian Islands Regional Authority.

The funding, amounting to €3m, will come from the EU ESPA programme for the Ionian Islands.
