CORFU. CORFU MP Stefanos Gikas: "Recognition of their value and contribution. They meet the Ministry of Culture΄s criteria for support of artistic creativity and education."

The Ministry of Culture & Sport announced funding of €110,000 to support Philharmonic Societies in 2021. €40,000 of that will go to 4 Corfu Philharmonic Societies - the highest amount of funding amongst the 22 Societies to receive support.

The funding is part of the Ministry's aim to support the activities of Philharmonic Societies and to develop and promote music.

The 4 Corfu Societies are:

- Corfu Philharmonic Society - €10,000
- 'Mantzaros' Philharmonic Society - €10,000
- Gastouri 'Omonia' Philharmonic Society - €5,000
'Capodistrias' Philharmonic Society - €15,000

Following the announcement, Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas said: "Yesterday, the Ministry of Culture & Sport announced important funding to support Greek Philharmonic Societies.

It is significant that out of the 22 Societies that are to receive the funding, 4 are in Corfu and they will also receive the largest amounts - a total of €40,000. This is a recognition of their value and contribution. They meet the Ministry of Culture΄s criteria for support of artistic creativity and education.

Priorities were set, such as support for and promotion of modern Greek artistic creativity both in Greece and abroad; the development of activities in the regions in order to provide support for and develop local cultural activities; reinforcing the educational work of the Philharmonic Societies and promoting them.

The Government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Ministry of Culture are demonstrating once again that they support modern Greek culture and provide the necessary support for its promotion and development."
