Results of traffic measures in Corfu Old Town

CORFU. At the meeting it was pointed out that the temporary measures have had positive results.

In an effort to deal with traffic congestion and facilitate both residents and visitors, a meeting was held this afternoon to discuss about the results of the recent moderate traffic measures implemented in the historic centre of Corfu Town. At the meeting it was pointed out that the temporary measures have had positive results.

The briefing aimed to provide a transparent and detailed overview of the results of the measures put in place and the positive impact they have had on traffic flow and urban mobility. The meeting also provided an opportunity for an open discussion between the participants during which suggestions for further improvements were noted to be considered in future traffic management strategies.

Mayor Meropi Ydraiou reminded her promise for a town with sustainable urban development aimed at the well-being of citizens. "We are pleased to witness the positive results of our collaboration with the Traffic Police and all the bodies to ease traffic congestion in the historic centre. These measures are a proof of our commitment to create a town that is efficient, sustainable and safe for all.

"The success of these measures is the result of a collective effort and improvements will be made where necessary. We encourage all residents to actively participate in adopting responsible habits when driving for the greater benefit of the town," said the Traffic Police Chief Mr. Vlachopoulos.

All representatives of the bodies, including the Old Town residents, the businesspeople and the professionals, pointed out that the implementation of the measures was necessary, given the huge increase in the number of vehicles in the town. They also stressed that these measures to facilitate traffic in the historic centre had positive results.

The following were present at the meeting: Police Chief Mr. Skolarikis, Traffic Police Chief Mr. Vlachopoulos, Corfu Port Authority CEO Mr. Zervopoulos, Corfu Hoteliers Association President Mr. Voulgaris, Corfu Trade Association President Mr. Alegris, Corfu Catering Union President and Vice President Mr. Latsas and Mr. Katehis, Corfu Unified Tourist Association Mr. Litsardopoulos, Corfu Urban KTEL Director Mr. Pagalis, Corfu Radio Taxi Cooperative CEO and Vice President Ms. Tarasidou and Mr. Koursaris, Old Town Residents Association President and  Vice President Mr. Olympios and Mr. Petrou, San Giacomo Association President Mr. Makris, Deputy Mayor for Urban Planning Mimis Katehis, Deputy Mayor for Tourism Panayiotis Varouchas and Deputy Mayor for Everyday Life and Civil Protection Haris Yiotis.

The traffic measures in the historic centre of Corfu Town that aim to ease traffic problems and create a smoother and more efficient transport system within the town are being implemented from 20:00 to 24:00 and will be in force until 27 August.
