Man arrested for placing sunbeds on beach without permit

CORFU. The man placed the sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach in Ag. Georgios Argyrades.

(Ionian Islands Regional Police Department).Intensive checks are being carried out by the Greek Police to ensure compliance with legislation regarding the use of beaches and in the case of violations, applying on-the-spot procedures against owners/representatives of businesses operating in this specific sector.

During the three-day period from August 4th to 6th, in the Cyclades and Ionian Islands, 16 individuals were arrested by local police teams for being owners/representatives/legal representatives of establishments found to be in violation of the aforementioned regulations.

Specifically, the violations pertained to occupying the beach with umbrellas without a permit from the competent authority, encroaching on additional space beyond the area designated in the permit, using space covered by archaeological protective provisions and obstructing access to the sea by placing umbrellas at a distance of less than 5 metres from the shoreline.

In Corfu the manager of a catering establishment was arrested for placing 10 sets of umbrellas and sunbeds on the beach without the required permit. The individual in question is a 41-year-old who operates in Agios Georgios Argyrades.
