Reinforcements from Epirus, Macedonia and Peloponnese expected
CORFU. Kassiopi-Sidari road closed to traffic in Apraou.
(14:30) Aerial and ground forces are expected to be reinforced during the day and are operating at the three active fronts of the fire in northern Corfu.
Epirus Regional Fire Chief, Apostolos Vasdekes, who is in charge of coordinating the firefighting operation, told Enimerosi that the fronts are located above Lafki, Loutses and Kassiopi.
According to Vasdekes, the existing forces will be strengthened during the day with vehicles coming from Epirus and Macedonia, as well as aircraft from the Peloponnese.
However, the dense smoke is making the work of the aerial units more difficult.
According to information from the police, at this time (2:30 p.m.), the section of the Kassiopi-Sidari road in the area of Apraos has been closed to traffic. Police are present at the location to divert traffic.
