CORFU. North Corfu Mayor appeals to residents to limit water consumption.

Once again, the flames flared up in the early morning hours on Mount Pantokrator.

Throughout the night, the firefighting forces fought a battle against the flames, as the fire front intensified in the early hours of Tuesday in the area of Old Perithia.

Strong firefighting forces are present in Loutses, where the main fire front is located.

In this area, there are currently strong Force 4 winds blowing, which are gradually getting stronger. The fire has escalated and is descending towards Old Perithia, where businesses are located.

40 vehicles with 90 personnel, along with the municipality's firefighting trucks equipped with excavators, are involved in the operation with the assistance of aerial resources, including two helicopters, a PZL, and a Canadair.

The fire is located 100 metres away from residential houses, and there is readiness for evacuation. As firefighters reported to Enimerosi, the fire has formed a ring and has returned to where it started. Another front is situated in Loutses, while other fire spots exist in various locations.

North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris, speaking to ERT Corfu, appealed to all residents of the Municipality to limit water consumption for irrigation and other activities, as there is a problem with the water supply to the firefighting vehicles.
