76,000 tyres collected and recycled at Central Corfu Municipality

According to the 2022 data of Ecoelastika, a company responsible for the management of end-of-life tires, for the Central Corfu Municipality, 76,083 tyres were used in various sectors. Specifically, 35.5% were used for energy recovery, while 64.5% were recycled.
Their processing resulted in products that were used in the following applications:
- 226.46 tons in artificial turf for sports fields
- 51.95 tons in rubber safety floors
- 57.06 tons in rubber carpets for sports venues
- 4.26 tons as additives in thermoplastic elastomers
- 0.39 tons as asphalt modifier
- 1.05 tons in rubber insulation material
Other possible end uses are thermal insulation, soundproofing pannels, rubber insulation sheets, urban equipment such as benches, bicycle lanes and signs and everyday objects such as shoes, bags, pens etc.
