CORFU. A fam trip for journalists was organised to promote the destination.

Mayor Meropi Ydraiou welcomed a five-member delegation of journalists from Israel at the San Giacomo Old Town Hall yesterday, with the President of the Municipal Council, Dimitris Metallinos and the Deputy Mayor of Tourism, Panayiotis Varouchas also present.

Led by Esther Eskaloni-Shadmon, an official from the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) office in Israel, the press team is undertaking a five-day familiarisation trip to Corfu, with the aim of promoting our destination in the Israeli market.

This particular initiative is the result of close collaboration between the Municipality and the Mayor with the Embassy and the Head of the GNTO office in Israel, Dimitris Vasiliadis, and the joint invitation extended by both parties to the media in Tel Aviv, with the support and generous sponsorship of the Angsana hotel group.

The press delegation, consisting of Ms. Rinat Schwartz and Messrs. Ziv Reinstein, Eitan Leshem, and Dor Hayak, represents the largest and most reputable Israeli Mass Media outlets, such as:

Mako.co.il: This is a leading media outlet owned by the same group as the country's largest television channel, Keshet or Channel 12.

Walla.co.il: Equally powerful in terms of television media, it is the second most-watched channel in the country.

Haaretz.co.il: This is Israel's oldest media outlet and the largest subscription-based information source.

13tv.co.il: Also a television channel, specifically the second largest in the country (Reshet or Channel 13), with an emphasis on topics related to leisure, entertainment, and social activities.

During the meeting, the Mayor presented the journalists with an overall picture of the destination, highlighting the natural, historical, cultural and architectural attractions that Corfu offers as a tourist destination.

Mr. Varouchas addressed questions from the journalists regarding the comparative advantages of Corfu compared to other competing destinations, while Mr. Metallinos provided a historical reference to the Jewish Community of Corfu and the bonds of friendship between the two peoples.

The scheduled meeting was attended by the Commercial Director of Voulgaris Hospitality Group, Christos Katsigiannis, who, representing the President of the Corfu Hoteliers Association, presented the island's hotel product and its defining characteristics. The General Secretary of AOCTA, Mr. Napoleon Patras, who took charge of the journalists' tours to the attractions of Corfu and the private boat cruise to the island's most beautiful beaches, was also present.

The planning and implementation of the event were undertaken by the Municipality's Public Relations Office, which, on behalf of the Mayor, thanks the sponsors who contributed to the successful organisation of the fam trip, specifically: Kostas Bimblis, Director of Angsana Corfu, for the high level of hospitality provided; Napoleon Patras, CEO of First Travel Dafnis Destination Services, for the tours and transportation of the journalists; and the following restaurants: Liana Barba/ Porta Remounda Taverna, Pericles Katsaros/Rex Restaurant, Kostas Sakis/ Pergola Restaurant and Akis Nousia/ Corfu Sailing Club Restaurant.
