Garitsa Park Association calling for something to be done about run-down Sports Centre

At a working meeting on the subject of  Corfu National Sports Centre (EAKK) that took place at the Workers Centre there was agreement between sports bodies, representatives of public and private sector employees, the Parents' Union, women's associations, cultural societies and municipal and regional political representatives that they should send a joint resolution to the local and regional authorities, the political parties and Deputy Minister Avgenakis.

In its communication with sports bodies, Garitsa Park Association said the following:

"The tragic and dangerous state of the Sports Centre demands immediate renovation of the problematic building facilities, the acquisition of sports equipment and the immediate recruitment of necessary staff.

Sport is the right of every member of the public and the state is obliged to provide the facilities. We call on all citizens to demand it.

We call on the EAKK administration, sports clubs and bodies to come to a meeting at Garitsa Community Centre (opposite Agia triada Church) at 19:30 on Monday 13 March to draw up a joint resolution regarding the needs of Corfu Sports Centre and sports bodies.

There will only be representatives of sports bodies at the meeting."
