CORFU. 21,000 tons will be able to be transported to the Ioannina waste management facility and the same amount can be transported to Kozani.

The Minister for the Environment signed the decision that allows the transportation of Central Corfu Municipality's waste to the Ioannina waste management facility.

With this decision, 21,000 tons will be able to be transported to the Ioannina facility and the same amount can be transported to Kozani.

According to a statement from the Municipality, this basically means less cost as the following will be achieved:

1) A 20% reduction in the cost of transporting waste to the Ioannina facility.

2) Another alternative for the transportation and treatment of waste is ensured, without any additional cost for the citizens.

The Central Corfu Mayor Meropi Ydraiou stated the following:

"2023 begins with good news. The transportation of the Central Corfu Municipality's waste to the Ioannina facility is being secured, along with the one in Kozani and with even lower prices.

For three years now we have relieved our citizens from the nightmare with the rubbish by negotiating and achieving the only realistic solution available - the transportation of waste until the waste management facility starts operating.

In other words, we achieved what others told us was impossible and could not be done.

And most importantly, we achieved this without any extra financial burden for the citizens.

In the next few days, new projects concerning cleanliness in our Municipality will be announced.

We are moving forward, we are looking ahead. We will not stop working to improve the daily life of citizens in our Municipality."
