Fraport issues another NOTAM about Corfu Airport΄s closure from 8 to 22 February

CORFU. Although the resurfacing work on the runway is considered necessary, there is concern about Corfu΄s possible isolation.
Fraport issued a new NOTAM on Monday afternoon regarding another closure of Corfu Airport from 8 to 22 February, while there are still reactions about the closure from 9 to 24 January.
And while everyone is waiting for an answer from Fraport since Monday, the company remains silent, as until now it has not made any announcements about what will happen.
The NOTAM was issued on 19 December at 19:30, but there has not been any information for the citizens so as not to cause them any problems. Although the resurfacing work on the runway is considered necessary, there is concern about Corfu's possible isolation during the night, especially for emergency and urgent health cases requiring airlift. It is worth noting that the EKAB helicopter based in Aktio does not fly after sunset and in severe weather conditions.

The fact that the airport will close has provoked a reaction from Corfu MPs Dimitris Biagis and Alexandros Alekos, as well as the leader of the Prota I Kerkyra party Giorgos Kaloudis.
According to ertnews.gr, these will be works of tens of millions and will involve the resurfacing of the entire runway and for this reason the company said that it could not be done in sections.
Work will also be carried out on the safety lane, where compressed pebbles will be placed to provide greater safety for aircraft.
