Garitsa and Anemomylos construction site΄s safety to be improved with corrugated iron and lighting

CORFU. The contractor has promised to improve construction site΄s safety - What progress has been made.

Citizens keep pointing out the dangers of the Garitsa Park construction site fencing with the sharp iron rods, which could injure passers-by. Anyone passing by - children, elderly people, visually challenged people or cyclists - are at risk of injury, especially at night.
 
Of course, in case of an accident, the consequences for the contractor will be great.

The Deputy Mayor for Technical Works Nikos Kalogeros told Enimerosi that the contractor promised to change the sloppy and dangerous fencing. "The Municipality's supervising engineer is constantly present there. However, the contractor is the one responsible for the fencing," said the Deputy Mayor. "The Municipality is making recommendations and if there is no compliance, there will be severe penalties provided by law."
 
"We have advised the contractor and they promised that they will increase the protection measures and the signs indicating that work is being carried out will.
 
Corrugated iron will be placed from Douglas Column to the Desyllas junction to keep people out. Lighting will be placed up to Anemomylos, as well as a double net with reflectors in the sides.”
 
"We made it clear that the contractor must take all protective measures provided by the law in order for the citizens to be safe," said Mr. Kalogeros.

And while the issue of the skate park has not been resolved, as no final decision has yet been made, work on the other areas continues. "The Technical Works Department is monitoring the progress of the project - both at the area where there had been a reaction by the residents and at Anemomylos. In fact, direction has been given to speed up the work on both Garitsa and Anemomylos" said Mr. Kalogeros.


 

What has been done so far
 
Regarding the progress of the works, the Deputy Mayor for Technical Works told Enimerosi that:
 
- Work has begun to reconstruct the two toilets.
- The networks for the electric lighting have been placed in most areas. There are two excavators along with an archaeologist at the places where the bases for the electric lighting columns will be placed.
- Part of the automatic watering system has been installed in the Anemomylos section.
- 90% of the tactile paving has been installed. There is one more section left where the entire pavement and some logs need to be removed so that it can be completely reconstructed.
