CORFU. Participation in 23 international tourism exhibitions for the promotion of the Ionian Islands - Opening a channel of communication with Israel for the first time.

The Ionian Islands Region will participate in four more tourism exhibitions compared to 2022 for the promotion of our islands, while it will open for the first time a channel of communication with Israel, as Greece is one of the most popular destinations for this tourist market.

The tourism promotion programme for 2023 was approved at the last Ionian Islands Regional Council meeting, in order for it to be submitted to the Greek National Tourism Organisation for approval.

The Ionian Islands Region is planning to participate in 23 international tourism exhibitions, when in 2022 it participated in 19. The actions are funded both by PDE (Public Investment Programme - €879,200) and the ESPA Programme (€468,800) with the final budget being €1,348,000! This is a significant increase compared to the previous year, when the amount was €558,600 with resources only from PDE.

The participation

The Region will participate in the international tourism exhibitions with stands and activities (events, road shows, workshops) for the promotion of our islands' tourist product, as well as with creation, production, reproduction and supply of printed material. Staff and representatives of the Region will travel to support the tourism exhibitions and journalists will be hosted, while there will also be promotion and advertisement, creation of a communication platform, photographs, creation and production of videos, digitalisation activities, etc.

23 tourism exhibitions

There are some indicative tourism exhibitions that the Region will participate in, which include small expenses for food and drinks, traditional and souvenir items, as well as interpretation or translation costs.

In particular, for the first half of 2023, it is proposed to participate in 17 tourism exhibitions, starting with 'Vakantiebeurs', which will take place from 11-15 January in Utrecht. For the second half of the year, the Region has planned to participate in 6 exhibitions, starting with 'IFTM Top Resa', which will be held in September in Paris.

The tourism promotion programme for 2023, however, exceeds €1 million with the total amount being €1,348,000. This year's budget compared to the 2022 one appears significantly enhanced, as money from the previous PDE were transferred to the new one, while this time there is also funding from the ESPA Programme. The 2022 tourism promotion programme only had PDE as a source of funding.
