CORFU. Statements from Mayor Meropi Ydraiou and the Society΄s lawyer.

The Corfu Court of First Instance rejected the request that had been filed in order to stop the works for the redevelopment of the Garitsa and Anemomylos Parks.

The Society had filed an application for interim measures on 4 October, requesting that the works for the redevelopment project stop.

After it was postponed on Friday, the application for interim measures was discussed today and was rejected by the court.

Trial on 23 November

A trial date was set for 23 November, when the substance of the case will be heard.

In the judgment it is noted that the redevelopment project will not have any harmful consequences on the life and property of the residents.

Meropi Ydraiou: We will continue the public discussion

"The Garitsa and Anemomylos redevelopment project will proceed for the benefit of all and especially the area's residents who will realise it once it is completed.

None of our fellow citizens are opponents. We are listening to everyone's needs and worries, as well as everyone's will for redevelopment and upgrading of the area and the parks that everyone will enjoy and be proud of.

Our opponent is the situation in which the Garitsa and Anemomylos Parks have been for years, a situation that offends us all.

I live and will continue to live in this place. I want to see it better and more beautiful than any other place, as it deserves to be.

The Parks will become a place where people can have fun, a green lung, the whole area will be upgraded.

153 new trees, 10,000 bushes, flowers and aromatic plants will be planted, which will make life and our daily routine more beautiful and will turn the parks into a pole of attraction, joy and beauty.

In a few months, at the beginning of summer, everything will be different and more beautiful.

As far as I am concerned, I am listening and will continue to listen to the comments, the different points of view and the useful suggestions of every citizen.

I will continue the public discussion both in Garitsa and Anemomylos and the Corfu Town and villages, with everyone for whom this beautiful place is being created.''

Society’s lawyer: Unacceptable decision

The lawyer of the Garitsa Park Cultural Society Giorgos Koskinas told Enimerosi that the decision was wrong, unacceptable and offensive to the legal system. "The content of our application was different from the decision that was issued," said Mr. Koskinas.

"We will continue our fight, with every possibility provided by the law. If some people want to destroy Corfu, we will not allow it."
