CORFU. The contract will be signed next year, provided that no problems arise.
From the open tender announced by the Ionian Islands Region, a temporary successful bidder was selected for the repair of the sea wall and pavement of the Garitsa shore road. The tenders were opened online on Friday 7 October.
Five potential contractors submitted bids for the repair project, including the company that was awarded the project in the first call for tenders under the previous procedure, which included the project in the emergency ones, but was rejected by the Court of Auditors. The temporary successful bidder submitted a proposal for a discount of about 14% on the project, which has an initial budget of €995,000.
Verification of supporting documents
The next step is the verification of the supporting documents, which is expected to be completed next week and, following the required procedures, the temporary bidder will be selected as the final contractor of the project.
The pre-contractual check by the Court of Auditors will follow and if everything goes well this time, the contract for the project will be signed. However, the procedures are not expected to be quick, as each stage requires its own completion time, provided, of course, that no objections arise. This means that, barring the unexpected, the contract for the repair project will be signed in 6-9 months, i.e. next year.
The project has to be completed in 12 months from the signing of the contract.
It is becoming worse
Time, however, is passing and the current image of the Garitsa shore road in this particular section is particularly disheartening. In various places the pavement has partially collapsed and it is becoming worse due to the weather conditions, with all that this implies for the safety of passers-by.
