CORFU. The bridge has been restored and rebuilt.

Afra bridge has now been completely restored following the damage done to the support wall and part of the road by the Balos storm.

The Deputy Regional Governor for Civil Protection Nikos Miliotis published photos of the bridge which has now been restored and rebuilt a year after the storm. Work began at the end of October 2021.

Mr. Miliotis told Enimerosi that traffic has been able to pass across the bridge since the end of February but the remaining work has been completed now.

'Athena' and 'Balos'

Afra bridge was first hit by the 'Athena' storm on 7 October 2021 and 'finished off' by 'Balos' a week later.

The road across the bridge was completely destroyed and huge trees and lighting poles fell into the river. Access to the village was only available via small backstreets as the bridge which connects Eth.Pelekas Rd with Afra could not be crossed.

Following the restoration work the bridge is now fully-operational and has also been beautified with stonework.
