Police checks in Ionian Islands

CORFU. 38 arrests were made.
Between 18:00 on 30 July and 02:00 on 31 July police in Corfu, Zakynthos, Cephalonia and Lefkada carried out checks for the following:
- Theft and burglary
- Dangerous driving
- Violations of regulations at catering establishments
- Drug dealing
- Illegal immigrants
453 vehicles and 606 individuals were checked, leading to 38 arrests - 13 in Zakynthos, 11 in Corfu, 8 in Cephalonia and 6 in Lefkada - for the following offences:
- 3 for drug offences
- 1 for illegal possession of weapon
- 1 for illegal residence
- 9 for driving without a licence
- 4 for illegal trading
- 9 catering establishments for lack of health certificate
- 5 for noise pollution
- 3 for building offences
- 3 for miscellaneous offences
There were 263 driving offences, including the following:
- 4 driving under the influence
- 15 speeding
- 10 not wearing seat belts
- 39 not wearing crash helmet
- 3 using mobile phone whilst driving
- 12 without driving licences
- 1 driving on wrong side of the road
- 1 without MOT
12 vehicles were immobilised for driving without a licence, driving under the influence and not wearing crash helmets.
In checks carried out in business premises two violations of the no-smoking law were found.
During checks the following were also found and seized: 1 replica pistol, 4g cocaine, 95g cannabis, €5,980, 3 mobile phones and 90 products for illegal trading.
