CORFU. Belharra is the name given by the French shipbuilding group Naval Group to the Defence and Intervention Frigates (FDI) built for foreign markets.

The French Navy ship, which is visiting the island, is docked at the windward pier at Corfu Port.

It is the same class of vessel as the three recently purchased by the Hellenic Navy.

Belharra is the name given by the French shipbuilding group Naval Group to the Defence and Intervention Frigates (FDI) built for foreign markets.

The FDI/Belharra has a displacement of 4,500 tonnes and its length is 122 metres. The ship has a crew of 120. It can carry one helicopter and an unmanned aircraft as well as commandos with light speedboats. It is highly digitalised and the Naval Group says it is the first war ship to have digital protection systems included in the initial planning.
