Roadworks in Corfu moving forward – What has been done so far

CORFU. Most of the Eth. Pelekas Rd has been improved. Work on Tzavros-Paleokastritsa road and northwest Corfu is still in progress.
The roadworks of the Ionian Islands Region are moving forward. Works to improve the condition of the roads are still in progress and several sections of the dangerous road network have already been resurfaced. The works include resurfacing, repairing potholes and subsidence, improving gradients etc.
Most of the road in Pelekas has already been resurfaced and, in particular, the road up to the Sinarades junction, Karoubatika, the main road in Pelekas, the Afra junction, Koulines, Kambaniolou, Alepou. Large sections of the road network have already been resurfaced, while road markings are still being created on both the new and old sections of the roads.
Deputy Regional Governor for Infrastructure and Technical Works Manolis Orphanoudakis told Enimerosi that road surfacing in Paleokastritsa will finish today and the work will continue on the road towards Tzavros.
It is worth noting that the total length of the roads in Central Corfu is 97km, 40% of which is going to be repaired.
The contract for the repair of the main and subsidiary road network in Central Corfu was signed last December.
The work on the completely damaged road network in North Corfu is also in progress. As far as the northwest Corfu is concerned, the road in Sidari had recently been resurfaced, followed by Roda, Acharavi and the coastal road leading to the centre of the island.
The works are part of a total of four major roadworks projects with a €18-million budget to be carried out in Corfu:
- Improvement of main and subsidiary road network in Central Corfu
- Improvement of main road network in North Corfu (€3,837,850)
- Improvement of main Corfu Town – Kavos road and secondary roads in South Corfu (€3,003,000)
- Improvement of rural road network in Oroi and Northwest Corfu (€4,512,500)
The contract for the repair of the secondary roads in North Corfu was signed in April 2022 and includes works in the following areas: Lakones, Makrades, Vistonas, Pagi, Arkadades, Dafni, Armenades, Temenades, Kavadades, Magoulades, Arillas, Afionas, Avliotes, Peroulades, Ano and Kato Korakiana, Sokraki, Zygos, Sgourades, Episkepsi, Klimatia, Sfakera, Roda, Nymphes, Agioi Douloi, Petalia, Trimodi, Lafki, Spartylas, Strinilas, Perithia, Loutses, etc.
