CORFU. At the meeting with the DEDDIE (Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator) Director, they presented their demands.

Representatives of the North Corfu branch of the Greek Women’s Federation (OGE), along with members of the Corfu Labour Centre Board, the Corfu Unions of Private and Hotel Employees, the Corfu Federation of Agricultural Associations and pensioners' organisations, protested this morning at DEDDIE's offices.

Statement from North Corfu OGE:

We demand that there should be no power cuts in the homes of workers, unemployed, poor pensioners, farmers, small business owners, disabled and vulnerable people, as well as students struggling to complete their studies.

We are organised and we are fighting against energy poverty and increases in prices. We denounce the ND Government, which is implementing EU's policy that is bringing huge price increases to households and excessive profits to the energy companies.

We can no longer tolerate this mockery from the government that is announcing electricity subsidies whose sole purpose is to increase the profits of the companies, while people will pay for the so-called ‘green growth’. At the same time, the lignite plants that can provide energy efficiency to the country are being closed down.

At the meeting with the DEDDIE Director, we presented our demands and we announced the Women’s Federation's decision not to leave any family without electricity and not to allow any more power cuts by DEDDIE crews.

We demand:
- No power, water and telephone cuts in households and small businesses
- No more power adjustment clause
- Cheap electricity for the people
- No more VAT on consumer goods

Everyone should join our Unions and Associations!
We choose the only optimistic way – to fight!
