CORFU. Tourism catering employees in Corfu are continuing their protests along with the rest of the country.
The employees are protesting against the rapidly rising cost of living and demanding a respectable living wage, an extension to the payment of unemployment benefit, collective labour contracts and pay increases.
The protest convoy set off this morning from the airport and ended up in Corfu Town.
Statement from protestors:
"We are fighting for the adoption of basic support measures in the public health system and proper health protection for the workers and all people.
The government must immediately give financial support to cover the immediate needs of thousands of workers in the hotel and catering sector and not to send weapons to the war.
We condemn the new imperialist war and Greece's involvement in sending fighting materials to Ukraine and assisting NATO.
