CORFU. 17 arrests and 132 driving offences in the Ionian Islands on Saturday night.
Police carried out checks between 18:00 on 26/2 and 02:00 on 27/2 and made 17 arrests (14 Greeks and 3 foreign nationals) - 11 in Zakynthos, 4 in Cephalonia and 2 in Corfu.
The arrests were for the following offences:
12 for not having a driving licence
2 for not having a proper health certificte
1 for illegal residence in Greece
1 for an outstanding conviction
1 for fireworks violation
There were 132 driving offences, including the following:
27 for speeding
20 without a proper driving licence
8 without a crash helmet
5 not wearing safety belts
5 for driving under the influence
6 MOT violations
1 without insurance
1 for running a red light
1 for using a mobile phone while driving
There were also two fines for smoking in a non-smoking area - €500 for the owner of a Corfu cafe bar and €100 for the customer who was smoking.
