First passengers from burning vessel arrive at Corfu Port

CORFU. The first passengers from the burning ferry boat Olympia have been brought to Corfu Port by the Coastguard.

The Ambulance Service and the Fire Service are waiting in readiness at the port and there is a heated area for the passengers with thermal blankets and food.



According to the Athens News Agency, 278 passengers have been taken aboard nearby boats, whilst the captain has said that the ship has a total of 288 passengers. There were also 25 cars and 153 lorries on the ferry boat.

There will be an official head count at the port once all the passengers have arrived there.

Deputy Minister of the Interior Stelios Petsas, 6th Regional Health Department Director Yiannis Karvelis, Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa, ND MP Stefanos Gikas and Syriza MP Alekos Avlonitis are at the port.
