ATHENS. Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas: "€29.1m for the Water Softening Project in Chrysida"

Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas met with the Deputy Minister for Infrastructure Giorgos Karayiannis today to discuss the Corfu Water Supply project.

The Deputy Minister told Mr. Gikas that the first invitation to tender that has been published by the Ministry for Infrastructure and Transport for 2022 is for the Water Softening Facility in Chrysida, which is part of the large 'Corfu Water Supply' project.

Statement from Stefanos Gikas:

The main object of the contract will be the completion of an autonomous system to supply 15,000mdrinking water a day to Corfu Town based on the Chrysida Water Softening Facility which supplies the current Withdrawal Tanks and 4 small tanks in the Viros area. The project also includes the connection of the Withdrawal Tanks to the River Tank which is under construction in order to increase the storage and regulatory capacity of the town water supply network. The contract also includes operation and maintenance of the system for 36 months and the full length of the contract is 63 months.

The budget for this sub-project is €29.1m including VAT. The deadline for submission of tenders is 1 February and they will be unsealed electronically on 8 February.

Stefanos Gikas expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the Corfu Water Supply Project which, although it was set in motion by the previous government, has come up against a lot of problems.

Following coordinated efforts with the Ministry for Infrastructure and Transport, the rest of the Corfu Water Supply Project (with a budget of over €180m) will be completed via a public-private partnership, with the state funding being provided by the Recovery Fund.

The Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Kostas Karamanlis will be visiting Corfu in the near future.
