CORFU. There was a significant increase today in the number of pupils testing positive for Covid.

According to the Ionian Islands Regional Education Department, a total of 21 more school pupils have tested positive for Covid-19 - three times the number announced yesterday, when there were seven!

The total includes 9 primary school pupils and 12 secondary school pupils. Two staff (not teachers) also tested positive.

Self tests are carried out every Tuesday and Friday in order for pupils to be allowed into school.

Despite the increase in numbers, up to now, no classes have been closed as the protocol is that a class should close only if 50% plus 1 of the pupils have tested positive for Covid.

In addition to today's cases, over 24 pupils have already tested positive this wekk and two teachers.
