CORFU. The Serbian representatives are here for the annual memorial for Serbs in Corfu.

Representatives from two governments are here for the annual memorial for Serbs in Corfu - Employment Minister Darija Kisic Tepavcevic on behalf of Serbia and Željka Cvijanović, President of Republika Srpska in Bosnia.

The Serbian Employment Minister, along with representatives from the Municipality, visited the cemeteries and memorials for the Serbs in Kato Korakiana, Gouvia and Agios Mathaios this morning.

President Cvijanović met with Ionian Islands Regional Governor Rodi Kratsa.

Tomorrow, Thursday 23rd, they will go to Vidos for the official annual memorial events at the Serbian Mausoleum.

Corfu played a significant part in the history of Serbia. According to historical records, there were 150,000 Serbian soldiers and civilians in Corfu in April 1916, who had been transferred here from the port of Avlona in Albania by allied ships between 18 January and 21 February 1916.

The care provided and the heartfelt relations with the local population contributed to the spectacular recovery of the Serbian soldiers.

This warm response from the Corfu people was and still is one of the most important reasons for the friendship and cooperation between the two peoples over the years.

In memory of those who had lost their lives, a mausoleum with an ossuary was built on Vidos Island in 1936. Corfu Municipality also created a Serbian Museum in Moustoxidou St.
