CORFU. Following the announcement that the collection of clothing for recycling by volunteers will be stopping, Spyros Neratzis gave an account of the results to date.
The voluntary collection of clothing for recycling is ending and will be taken over by the Municipal Authority. As Spyros Neratzis explained: "The Municipal Authority complete the tender process and became the contractor for the creation of an integrated management system for used clothing and footwear. It is not our aim to do the Municipality's work."
Statement from Spyros Neratzis:
"The amazing results from the recycling of clothing are due to the participation of the public and mainly the voluntary efforts of the Corfiots!
When there is the voluntary support of the KORFOY transport company belonging to the Balis brothers, then it is easy to arrange for over 4 tons of clothing to go to the recycling facility in Athens instead of to Temploni landfill.
Over the first 8 months of 2021 we have, working all together, managed to divert 21 tons of clothing and footwear.
What we started together in 2019 motivated by our love for the environment and powered only by voluntary work has turned into a regular 'run' to the recycling facilities!'
