CORFU. The MP and the Service Secretary of the Ministry of Health said that they will forward the issues to the Ministry of Health’s political leadership.

Corfu ND MP Stefanos Gikas paid a visit to Lefkimmi Health Centre on Monday along with Ministry of Health Service Secretary, Dr. Ioannis Vlassis, where they were informed by the Health Centre’s Coordinator Dr. Dimitra Kipeni and by the doctor and South Corfu Deputy Mayor Giorgos Sayias about the Health Centre's issues.

During the discussion, Dr. Kipeni strongly raised the need to re-advertise the vacancies for doctors at the Health Centre, since the previous announcement with vacancies for Category II Supervising doctors was unsuccessful. In order to fill the existing vacancies, it was proposed that the new advertisment should provide for Category I Supervising doctors.

The Coordinator also clarified that following the last recruitment of two nurses at the Lefkimmi Health Centre the number of planned positions for nurses has been filled. However, there is a lack of administrative staff which is necessary for the Centre’s smooth operation.

In addition, regarding the building’s damage, Mr. Gikas and Mr. Vlassis were informed that a private individual has offered to undertake the repair work for some of the Health Centre's rooms. It should be noted that the studies of the radical repair and upgrade projects of all Corfu Health Centres, which will be implemented by the Ionian Islands Region, are ongoing.

The MP and the Service Secretary said that, within the framework of their responsibilities, they will promote the issues to the Ministry of Health’s political leadership, in order to ensure the proper operation of Lefkimmi Health Centre for the benefit of the South Corfu citizens.
