On 11 & 12 August, Corfu Philharmonic Bands will hold their traditional anniversary concerts, as part of the three-day celebratory events in remembrance of St. Spyridon΄s miracle in 1716.
CORFU. On Tuesday 10 August, 2021, Capodistrias Philharmonic Society will hold a concert at the Psychiatric Hospital – Tsirigoti Square at 9p.m., conducted by Michalis Michalopoulos.
The programme will consist of two parts and will include a variety of works by different artists (Mozart, I. Albeniz, G. Bizet. etc).
On Wednesday 11 August, 2021, Corfu Philharmonic Society will hold a concert at the Old Fortress (courtyard of Church of St. George), at 21:00.
It will include original band works (Alford, Schembari, Richards), operas by Giuseppe Verdi (on the occasion of his 120th death anniversary) and works by Manos Hadjidakis, while Tonia Tombrou (piccolo flute) and Spyros Grimmas (tuba) will perform as soloists. Corfiot composers of three different generations - Spyros Mazis, Spyros Katsouris and Spyros Prosoparis - will, also, perform original compositions.
The concert will be conducted by Spyros Prosoparis.
500 numbered tickets will be available free of charge at the Philharmonic Society's Music Museum (working days, 10:00-13:00) and at the concert hall’s entrance before the concert starts.
The concert will, also, be broadcasted live by the Corfu Channel.
On Thursday 12 August, 2021, 'Mantzaros' Philharmonic Society, will hold its concert in the Colonnade of the St. Michael & St. George Palace, at 21:00, performing works by Mantzaros, D. Shostakovich, R. V. Williams, J. van der Roost, H.J. Wood, I. Liberalis, N. Farougias, E.O. Neske etc. The concert will be conducted by Socrates Anthis.
The concert will have a seated audience of 150.
All Covid-19 safety measures and health protocols will be adhered to in all concerts.
