ZAKYNTHOS. Five of the women said that they were unaware of the EODY protocols and the requirement to quarantine for 14 days if they had been in contact with a positive case.

Five British tourists who had gone to the airport to return home were placed in Zakynthos quarantine hotel yesterday. The police asked that they be taken to the quarantine hotel after a friend of theirs had been taken to hospital with Covid-19.

The six women had come to Zakynthos on holiday but one of them had Covid symptoms just before they were due to return to the UK. She was taken to the hospital, where it was confirmed that she had Covid-19 and her five friends were confirmed as being close contacts.

According to police sources, the five women said that they were unaware of the EODY protocols and the requirement to quarantine for 14 days if they had been in contact with a positive case. Accordingly, they went to the airport early on Monday morning to take the return flight they had booked.

However, following the contact tracing by EODY and the police, they were found at the airport and taken to the quarantine hotel, where they are now being accommodated as close contacts of a positive case. The sixth woman, who has Covid-19, has also been taken to the hotel, where she remains in a separate room. The Prosecutor was informed of the case but decided not to bring charges as there was lack of intent.
