10 plastic products banned in Greece from today

ATHENS. Ban on 10 plastic products in accordance with legislation passed in October 2020.
From today, 3 July the following 10 plastic products will be banned in Greece as in all EU countries.
1. Cotton buds
2. Plastic cutlery
3. Plastic plates
4. Plastic straws
5. Plastic drink stirrers
6. Plastic balloon holders other than balloons for industrial or other professional use
7. Food containers made of expanded polystyrene (styrofoam)
8. Expanded polystyrene beverage containers, as well as their lids and covers
9. cups of expanded polystyrene (styrofoam) for drinks, as well as their lids and covers
10. Products made of oxo-degradable plastic.
For General Government Bodies, the ban on the use of the above disposable plastic products has been in place since February 1, 2021.
Mandatory packaging marking
From 3 July there will be mandatory packaging marking on the following plastic products:
- Sanitary napkins, tampons and tampon applications
- Wet wipes
- Tobacco products with filters and filters for use in combination with tobacco products
- Drink cups
In this way, information is provided to the consumer regarding:
- The appropriate product management options such as waste or disposal methods that should be avoided for that product.
- The presence of plastics in the product and the consequent adverse environmental effects of their disposal
