CORFU. Retaining walls have been constructed in Glyfada, Kompitsi, Yiannades, Ag. Nikolaos Gardelades, Agios Markos and on the road leading to Kontoyialos beach.
Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Technical Works Department have constructed retaining walls at danger spots on the roads. The work was carried out in response to requests made following inspections of the spots in Glyfada, Kompitsi, Yiannades, Ag. Nikolaos Gardelades, Agios Markos and on the road leading to Kontoyialos beach.
In the aforementioned spots, due mainly to recent flooding, there had been landslips, subsidence in the road surfaces and sections of the roads and support walls had collapsed.
The work, with a budget of €55,000, has been completed and the roads are no longer a danger.
Deputy Mayor for Technical Works Nikos Kalogeros said, "These may have been small-scale works, but they were important for the safety of pedestrians and drivers and for accessibility. We are aware that there are many needs and we proceeded in response both to the requests submitted to us by the Traffic Police and the needs that had arisen in winter due to rainfall, which we went to inspect. I am especially pleased as we were able, with proper organisation, to provide practical solutions to make the public's life easier."
