Cooperation between Ionian University and North Corfu Municipality for the environment

CORFU. The memorandum of cooperation will focus on voluntary recycling tourism, the circular economy, raising public awareness and promoting the history of the area using modern digital means.

The Ionian University and North Corfu Municipality will be signing a memorandum of cooperation for the protection of the environment.

The memorandum, which will be implemented exclusively in the North Corfu Municipality, will focus on voluntary recycling tourism, the development of activities to help circular economy using the expertise of the University Department for the Environment, campaigns to raise public awareness and promoting the history of the area using modern digital means.

The framework for cooperation has been established following a series of meetings between the Dean of the University Professor Andreas Floros and the North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris. Also present at these meetings were the Deputy Mayor for Circular Economy and the Environment Spyridoula Kokkali, the Heads of the Departments of Environmental Science, Tourism and Audio & Visual Arts Kampasis, Patelis and Yiannakoulopoulos as well as teaching staff from the three departments.

"The Ionian University as an institute for research and tertiary education is both able and obliged to play an active role in supporting local communities in the Ionian Islands," said Dean Andreas Floros. "It can contribute to local development with the scientific expertise of its academics who specialise in various aspects of local and regional interest."
