CORFU. The work has remained half-finished for years due to the incomplete initial studies.

The Spilia Marina development, which has remained half-finished for years, is now moving forward once more.

The budget for the project is €9.5m with funding from the Ionian Islands ESPA Programme. According to the announcement, the work is to be completed 18 months after the signing of the contract.

The project

The project is for the completion of the tourist harbour in Spilia in Corfu Town. The work has remained unfinished due to, on the one hand, the incomplete initial studies to assess the geotechnical factors and the depth of the sea bed and, on the other, the fact that the original invitation for tenders didn't include some of the requirements of the approved environmental restrictions.

Moreover, it was judged necessary for some additional work to be included in the project so that on completion there would be a fully-operational tourist harbour in the centre of an important historical town which will be in complete harmony with the approved environmental requirements.

The additional work to be completed

- Repair and renovation of the Cafe Yiali building to provide the necessary landside facilities for the harbour.
- Solving the problem of water renewal in the basin.
- Ensuring adequate power supply.
- Providing a solution for the sewage outflow in Spilia.

The budget for the project is €9.5m and the deadline for tenders is 31 March. The tenders will be opened online on 6 April.
