CORFU. Statement from the Association of Corfu Travel Agents (AOCTA) following the government announcement that tourism will restart on 14 May.

AOCTA statement:

The Association of Corfu Travel Agents (AOCTA) welcomes the positive announcement from the Greek government regarding the safe opening of tourism in 2021, given by Tourism Minister Haris Theoharis at a press conference at ITB Berlin.

Following the Minister's announcement that the official opening of Greek tourism in 2021 is planned for 14 May, AOCTA would like to point out that the following are necessary:

- The Greek government must act quickly to draw up bilateral agreements with other countries as has already been done with Israel.
- The validated operational protocols must be announced.
- The government and the European Union must immediately adopt common travel regulations and protocols which apply for all countries.
- Travellers must be aware of all the procedures for travel with no surprises or unnecessary difficulties. In this way trust will be restored.
- The vaccination programme must be speeded up and completed before May for all those involved in the tourism sector so that all workers and visitors can feel safe.
- The government's plan for the opening of tourism must be published immediately along with the strategy for the 'next day'.

In conclusion, AOCTA would like to point out that after a year of this unprecedented crisis, recession and losses there is even greater need for the tourism sector to be supported financially (businesses and workers) by the state in order for it to properly recover.
