ATHENS. Economic support measures extended for December.
The Ministries of Finance, Employment and Social Matters have announced the extension of pandemic economic support measures for December 2020.
1. Employees and employers in businesses that are hit can suspend work contracts and receive compensation based on €534 per month. Full insurance contributions are also covered for the period of suspension. These businesses are obliged to keep the same number of personnel. Businesses that have been ordered to close must suspend work contracts and the dismissals are not valid during that period.
2. Businesses that suspend their operations during the month can postpone tax and insurance payments due in December and pay them in similar installments after the end of the suspension period.
3. Employees whose contracts have been suspended can postpone tax payments due in December and resume installments after the end of the suspension period.
4. The suspension of bank loan payments according to list published by the Government is extended until the end of the year.
5. As has already been announced and is already being implemented, all unemployment benefit for the months of September, October, November and December is extended by two months.
6. Mandatory home working for 50% of staff in the public and private sectors is extended except for activities where tele-working is not possible. There is also an extension of the measure for flexible start and finish times in the private sector in high-risk areas.
7. All businesses that have been hit according to the list drawn up in April are eligible for 40% business rent reduction in December. The same applies for the main residence of employees whose work contracts have been suspended and for student accommodation for their family members. Landlords of the above-mentioned business and family properties will receive 50% of the losses in their bank accounts.
8. Refundable Deposit No. % will be paid in January 2021 based on the drop in turnover for the period September - December 2020. 50% is not refundable under the condition that the same number of employees is kept on until the end of June 2021.
