CORFU. A girl in the 1st year of Potamos Nursery School has tested positive and her classmates are in isolation at home - Potamos Primary PGA have requested free tests for all pupils and teachers.

Corfu Primary Education Department confirmed today, Wednesday 18 November, that a girl at Potamos Nursery School has tested positive for Covid-19.

The test was taken on Saturday 14th after the young pupil had developed a fever at the end of lessons on the Friday. The result came back on Tuesday, showing that she was positive.

According to EODY protocols, the class has been closed for two weeks and her close contacts have to go into quarantine at home for 14 days.

With primary education now being carried out by distance learning this may not seem to affect things on a practical level as regards lessons, but it has a significant effect on the young girl's fellow pupils, who now have to stay at home for two weeks to prevent the possible spread of the virus.

In addition to this, the individual responsibility of parents and guardians also comes into play - they are not considered 'close contacts' by EODY, but they will nevertheless need to isolate themselves to a greater extent than that required by general lockdown measures as a precaution.

Potamos Primary School PGA sent a letter expressing their fear of the virus spreading further in the school community.

The Association requested that there be free tests for all pupils and teachers at the school and tracing of contacts of any positive cases.
