CORFU. 6 players from amateur football teams in South Corfu have tested positive for Covid-19.
According to information, three players from Keravnou Dragotinon were in contact with a positive case. The club chairman has asked the coach to halt training. The club has stopped all activities and all the other players will also be tested.
Two other players from an A1 League team (both from Lefkimmi) and a player from another A1 team (also from Lefkimmi). The father of one of the players has also tested positive and the mother of another is showing symptoms and her test results are being awaited.
The A1 teams affected are Asteras Petriti and Kavos.
Asteras Petriti issued the following statement:
"We have to announce that a member of the football team tested positive for Covid-19. Team members have been placed in 48-hour quarantine and will take all the necessary EODY tests."
Reliable sources from South Corfu have said that the number is more than likely to increase over the next few hours or days. Tests are being carried out today, Friday, at Lefkimmi Junior High & High School to see if the virus is spreading.
Due to the fact that some of these players played against other teams in the Cup, there may be cases in those teams as well and measures need to be taken by the clubs and the Federation.
A team from Central Corfu, Thiella, was told on Friday to stop training as they had played against Asteras Petriti, which has at least one case, on Wednesday. The players will also be taking tests.
