CORFU. Central Corfu Deputy Mayor for Tourism spoke about the new measures announced by the Government.

Deputy Mayor Panos Varouchas said that the new measures and limitations applied to all the major tourist destinations and not just to Corfu.

Deputy Mayor's statement:

"Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality is taking all the necessary measures it is responsible for with ongoing cleaning and disinfection to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The Civil Protection Ministry and the infectious diseases experts decided to prohibit the opening of catering establishments between midnight and 7 in the morning in all the country's major tourist destinations - not just Corfu.

This measure was taken due to the spike in cases - not in Corfu, where, according to the experts, the epidemiological situation is still better than a lot of other places and the numbers are relatively low - but nationally.

Corfu is not 'closing' as a tourist destination and continues to welcome visitors.

Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality has two priorities:

1. To continue successfully to manage the health situation and deal with COVID-19.

2. To protect our tourist brand and reputation and support businesses and workers in the tourism sector.

We can support our tourist brand through our behaviour and by projecting a positive image of Corfu."
