CORFU. After chasing elusive information and counting cases we arrive at a total of 6 confirmed cases in Corfu on Wednesday 22 July, mad up of French, British and Romanians.

The quest for reliable information as regards coronavirus cases continues, with the number of cases gradually increasing in Corfu and a reluctance on a national and local level to provide information. The seeking of confirmation of information that, in one way or another, lands on media desks has become an arduous task.

Having said that, yesterday, 22 July, was the worst day to date for Corfu as regards the number of coronavirus cases.

A total of 6 cases were confirmed, taking the total since the reopening of the borders to 16.

Some are saying that counting the number of cases is not the right approach as Corfu is an entry point to the country, both through the airport and the port, and a high-profile tourist destination worlwide.

The first two cases yesterday were the two French nationals who arrived at the port. Following these there were two Britons staying in Kavos (whose test results came from Athens as they had arrived at the airport there) and finally two Romanians who had sample tests done at the airport and were staying in Kanoni.

The two French are in quarantine at the accommodation they rented and the two British and two Romanians have been placed in the quarantine hotel.
