Czech media representatives in Corfu

CORFU. Czech journalists met with the Deputy Mayors for Tourism and Culture Panayiotis Varouchas and Chrysoula Tombrou. They discussed tourism health protocols as well as the advantages of Corfu as a tourist destination and the multicultural nature of the island.

A media delegation from the Czech Republic visited Corfu as part of a press trip organised in collaboration with Invia - the largest Czech travel agency.

According to the Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Press Office, the delegation's programme included a meeting with Deputy Mayor for Tourism Panayiotis Varouchas and Deputy Mayor for Culture Chrysoula Tombrou at the Old Town Hall.

The aim of the meeting was to get reliable information about the handling of the COVID-19 crisis as it affects the tourist economy and culture.

Panayiotis Varouchas gave an update on the government's efforts to ensure that health protocols are properly adhered to in all tourist activities and underlined the professionalism of all those involved in tourism in Corfu, who are rigorously following the protective measures.

The Deputy Mayor stressed the adherence to preventative and protective measures, health protocols and the steps that have been taken locally to provide the best possible health services. He told them about the improvements at Corfu Hospital and its ability to test and deal with possible cases.

They then went on to discuss the comparative advantages of Corfu as a tourist destination and the visiting journalists showed great interest in the multicultural nature of Corfu and its historical centre.

Deputy Mayor for Culture Chrysoula Tombrou gave a presentation on Corfu's multicultural product and the opportunities to develop it. She and Mr. Varouchas pointed out that the Municipality's new strategy includes a strong portfolio with Corfu culture, tourist activities and the local culture which will greatly improve the travel experience.

Also taking part in the meeting was Giorgos Likavgis from Lord Travel, which organised the press trip in collaboration with Invia PR Director Andrea Reznickova, who headed the visiting delegation.

The Czech journalists who were at the Old Town Hall were as follows: Bozena Varilova from the biggest women's lifestyle magazine Czech News Center Blesk Pro Zeny; Jitka Fialkova from the news agency Czech News Agency; Jelizaveta Nestercova from the daily newspaper Νlada Fronta Dnes;  Karolina Stukova from the online information portal Seznam Zpravy and Clara Zangova from the TV channel CNN Prima News.
