Visit of Czech Republic Ambassador to Ionian Islands Regional Authority
CORFU. During the meeting, the possibility of further strengthening relations was also discussed.
The Ionian Islands Regional Governor, Yiannis Trepeklis, welcomed the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Mr. Ivo Silhavy, this morning at his office at the Regional headquarters, in the Old Courthouse building in Corfu.
The meeting took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, with both sides exchanging commemorative gifts as a gesture of welcome and friendship. Also present at the meeting was the Central Corfu Deputy Mayor for Sustainable Tourism Development and Public Relations, Spyros Chalikopoulos, who expressed his gratitude for the presence of the Czech Ambassador on the island and stressed the importance of stable and long-standing relations between Corfu and the Czech Republic.
"Corfu is one of the top destinations for Czech tourists, who have been supporting our island for years," he noted, pointing out that during the summer of 2024, 62,500 Czech visitors were recorded.
During the meeting, the prospect of further deepening relations was also discussed, through cultural exchanges and the exploration of a possible twinning of Corfu with a city in the Czech Republic that shares similar cultural and historical characteristics.
